Dark Circles Under Eyes

Dark circles under eyes may be inevitable, but can be avoided!

Dark Circles Under EyesEver get plenty of sleep and wake up looking like you spent the whole night out? This notion that we have to live with raccoon eyes drives us crazy. We spend a fortune on concealers, and it only makes the dark circles under eyes worse! We spend even more on eye creams and serums to treat them, and yet we don't fully understand how they come about.

We assume dark circles under eyes are a result of aging, but this is only partially true. Yes, dark circles under eyes can become more noticeable with aging due to the fact that our skin becomes thinner and more translucent as we age, but there are several other reasons that we get dark circles under eyes.
What are dark circles under eyes?
Dark circles under eyes are also known as bags. In most cases they are blood vessels that can be seen through the epidermis. The surface around the eyelids is the thinnest skin in the body. When blood passes through the large veins close to the surface, it can produce a bluish tint. These dark circles under eyes may cause you to look chronically fatigued, and they may also cause you to look aged.  Dark Circles Under Eyes
Reasons why we get dark circles under eyes:
  • Fatigue
  • Vitamin Deficiency
  • Allergies
  • Hyper Pigmentation
  • Medical Conditions
  • Heredity being the most common cause
If the reason your dark circles under eyes is genetic, they will usually worsen if left untreated. The more transparent the epidermis, which is also an inherited trait, the darker they appear.
So how do we treat them?

We can start by getting the proper amount of rest. The next step we can do is focus on our nutrition. Everything we eat affects our body on the cellular level. If we have healthy cells, then we have healthy tissues; organs; systems; and, in turn, a healthy body. We could put cucumbers on the dark circles under eyes to reduce the puffiness; yet cucumbers, like other at home remedies, are only a temporary fix. They are ineffective against these dark circles under eyes because they are not powerful enough to alter the epidermis's chemistry.

Dark Circles Under EyesSome of the best treatments are non-surgical esthetic treatments such as chemical peels and targeted creams. More severe cases may want to look into surgical alternatives; however, using the proper skin care system at home for treatment and maintenance is the best way to deal with dark circles under eyes.
